Passatempo Virus, a Vaccinia Virus Strain, Brazil
Passatempo virus was isolated during a zoonotic outbreak. Biologic features and molecular characterization of hemagglutinin, thymidine kinase, and vaccinia growth factor genes suggested a vaccinia virus infection, which strengthens the idea of the reemergence and circulation of vaccinia virus in Brazil. Molecular polymorphisms indicated that Passatempo virus is a different isolate.
متن کاملThe Antiviral Effects of Curcumin Nanomicelles on the Attachment and Entry of Hepatitis C Virus
Background and Aims: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a member of the Flaviviridae family, which causes approximately 500,000 deaths annually. HCV infection treatment is often associated with significant adverse effects. Curcumin is an active ingredient of turmeric which has therapeutic anti-inflammatory effects in many diseases including infectious ones. Although curcumin is not soluble in water, if...
متن کاملTRAF2 Facilitates Vaccinia Virus Replication by Promoting Rapid Virus Entry
UNLABELLED Tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNFR)-associated factor 2 (TRAF2) is a pivotal intracellular mediator of signaling pathways downstream of TNFR1 and -2 with known pro- and antiviral effects. We investigated its role in the replication of the prototype poxvirus vaccinia virus (VACV). Loss of TRAF2 expression, either through small interfering RNA treatment of HeLa cells or through genet...
متن کاملVaccinia virus H2 protein is an essential component of a complex involved in virus entry and cell-cell fusion.
The vaccinia virus H2R gene (VACWR 100) is conserved in all sequenced members of the poxvirus family and encodes a protein with a predicted transmembrane domain and four invariant cysteines. A recombinant vaccinia virus, in which expression of the H2 protein is stringently regulated, was unable to replicate without inducer. However, under nonpermissive conditions, all stages of virus morphogene...
متن کاملTwo distinct low-pH steps promote entry of vaccinia virus.
Entry of vaccinia virus into cells occurs by an endosomal route as well as through the plasma membrane. Evidence for an endosomal pathway was based on findings that treatment at a pH of <6 of mature virions attached to the plasma membrane enhances entry, whereas inhibitors of endosomal acidification reduce entry. Inactivation of infectivity by low-pH treatment of virions prior to membrane attac...
